Watching Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude on Netflix this week led me to the comparison of a good magic realism novel with the tutti frutti. When you’re eating this excellent pastry, you savour its taste without necessarily being consciously aware of what’s between your teeth. You know it’s heavenly, and that’s more than enough.
