Multum in Parvo
Medium is obviously teeming with talent. But I have come across two members, who in my estimate, are a cut above all the others. Violet Storm has been around for a number of years in different allotropies, first on Cowbird, where I first read her heartfelt personal history. Whether its about abuse or joyful happenings, she writes with humour, wisdom and insight. One needs a special personality to do that. Dining with David (2. March 2018) is probably her one story (in Medium) which I like best, and is a good example of her prose. I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Violet Storm, on top of being a first-class writer, has also got that special eye for photography. Check her out.
The other one is Kiera Sona. She is new to Medium, and I believe that she is barely out of her teens. The first time she sent me a story, I was bowled over. I remember she said something like there were not enough words available for her to describe what was going through in her head, and I replied to the effect that she had convinced me that with her way with words she needed not a single word more _ or words to that effect. She can pick a mundane situation, a word or an idea, and distil its essence and with a flourish and a bow presents it to her reader for their delectation. The story she published today ‘My alarm clock and I are no longer on speaking terms.’ is a little gem, but then her five or six other pieces in Medium so far, would all have their place in a collection of the best from Medium.
These two women demonstrate that Medium can be far from medium, and can indeed be summum.
