I too was lucky to have a brilliant English teacher. He was an Anglo-Norwegian called Norman Peterson, despatched to Mauritius by the Colonial Office. He had been an RAF pilot during the war. Sixty years on I still remember him reading Canterbury Tales in the fashion of Middle England. He loved Milton, and we loved the way he pronounced Moloch, the ockh sound almost Arabic. We made Moloch his nickname.
