God does not answer…

Lidl Supermarket

I sit outside Lidl’s in Leith

Saying, Thank you Papa

Thank you Lady whenever

A shopper passes near me

To grab a shopping trolley

Putting a pound in to unlock it

Before going inside

To come back twenty minutes later

Laden with the best cuts of beef

Smoked salmon French cheeses

Wines and Champagne.

Every night I pray to God

To make a shopper

Be in such a hurry

That they have no time

To reattach the trolley

To the Caterpillar

So I can go

And push it in

To rejoin its fellow trolleys

And collect the coin

For myself

But this never happens

God never answers

The Roma beggars’ prayers
